What were the political ramifications of Augustine's view of human nature?

All humans are born into original sin and they better spend their lives seeking grace, God's intervention, rather than fooling around too much in only earthly matters. No earthly gains, or political schemes, will ever last as long as "God's City." If earth was your last stop, perhaps you might allow yourself to be driven by your "libido dominandi." Allow yourself to be driven by ambition, that overwhelming pride and greed, and you might find an earthly lifetime of affluence. But, since we must all worry about our eternal life and becoming one with God's goodness, we must control our libido's drive and realize that pride is unethical and evil. Humility is the proper virtue to pursue in temporary earthly matters.
We all are born with desires, a need to dominate others and a willingness to take advantage of others. This tendency to do bad is natural for humans. Humans are conceived in sin and born fallen. But such a fallen state need not be eternal. God's intervention can raise us. You do not achieve God's grace to stand within the scope of the secular political communities, but within the Christian Community where, with the help of others, you can live life as a Christian. Augustine took Christian vows of poverty and obedience and (his most difficult one) chastity and lived within the Christian Community to help him attain grace by living up to his promises.
Political problems, like the fall of Rome, were due to the incompetence, corruptness and decadence of the political leaders and their subjects. These leaders and citizens were wrong to feel their earthly empires would live for eternity. No earthly paradise would ever reign for eternity, like "The City of God."
