AOL BIAS - This is a growing guide to AOL
political and religious bias seen by AOL subscribers
AOL shows political and religious bias in its news coverage. The bias is also seen in the use of AOL message board censorship policies.
Poster's messages
are deleted by AOL monitors violating AOL's own Terms of Service, TOS. Time
Warner has taken no action to stop the bias.

I'm just putting this out there. :o)
I am a
Muslim American and I am really finding
it quite irritating to see all this
bashing of muslims and immigrants. I was
born here in the states, in a Naval
hosptial of all places. My dad served in
the Navy, his father in the Army, and I
have several cousins serving in the
Navy, and the Coast guard. My husband is
an immigrant and suffered unjust
punishment from the FBI and BCIS. On top
of it all, every where we go we are spit
at, kicked at, have objects thrown at us
and obscene phrases hurled in our
direction.
Now, I am a convert. I was raised as a
Southern Baptist and later my mother
became Catholic. I am fairly well versed
in Christian beliefs. What my husband
and I are bombarded with nearly daily
are not ways in which the Christian
faith condones or supports. So, I cannot
understand for the life of me why people
who associate with Chrisitians would do
and say these things. My only
explaination is that there are a bunch
of bad apples in a greater group of good
people.
Also, for those that may not be of the
Christian faith who are doing the same
types of things to Muslims in this
country. My father raised me to believe
that Americans have a responsibility to
act in a certain manner. That manner
consisting of respect, virtue, honor,
compassion, and understanding. He taught
me that these are all aspects of being
an American and you cannot abandon any
of them. He told me that you should
fight for those who cannot fight for
themselves. You should also protect the
rights of all people no matter there
origins or beliefs.
With that being said, I find it very
interesting that many people from these
back grounds are very quick to judge,
condemn, and hate others. It all comes
back to a bunch of bad apples in an
otherwise good group of people. I
understand this and ignore most of the
incidents that occur. I would like to
acknowledge those that do not do these
sorts of things to other people. I must
say that for every person who has mad a
nasty remark, thrown something at me,
kicked at me or spit at me, there has
always been one more to come to my aid.
This reinforces my belief that people
are inherently good.
I have
also noticed a pattern after conversing
with my helping angels out there, those
persons who muster the courage to do
what is morally right. They are usually
devoted Christians/Jews/ fill in your
religion/ Service men or women. They are
people who truely believe in their cause
and their doctrine. Those who who spew
the venom and hate from their
mouths/keyboards are those who are not
moral in their souls. They have hate in
their heart. I am not sure who said it
first, but I have heard before; "You
hate about others what you hate most
about yourself"
Really I am in pity of these people. All
of them. From the terrorists all the way
down to the people on these boards
preaching hate. Hate leads to hate.
Break the cycle and think for yourself.
Your souls and what you say is between
you and Allah, God, Yaweh, or lack there
of. Whatever you prefer to believe. You
are ultimately responsible for your own
souls. If you believe in the oneness of
God and the last days, your soul will
stand in judgement and you will eat the
words you say today. So choose them
wisely. Be careful in your duties to
God. God knows best, he is the all
knowing and he knows well what is in
your hearts.
Just
for the record, as a Muslim I denounce
terror in all shapes and forms. No
matter who is terrorizing who. It is an
immoral and unjust practice. However, I
will not apologize for terrorist actions
made in the name of Allah (swt). If
Muslims "apologize" it means they are
taking responsibility for the actions of
other people out of their control. Just
as I believe that Germans do not owe
apologies to Jews, White people today do
not owe Black people an apology for
slavery, or any other such instances.
You cannot and should apologize for the
actions of others with results beyond
your control.
As for
those who would like to disagree, if you
believe all these groups with such
instances owe apologies, then there are
some groups who have alot of explaining
to do. ;o)
To
everyone, Asaalam alekom! (Peace upon
you!)

Turns out he was right. I was TOS?d and told what I said was "harassment". AOL has now proven they violate their own policy "AOL offers a diverse and robust community. Specific areas, products or services may carry additional standards, and we also expect you to review and abide by the standards of the areas you frequent." AOL is a typical "tolerant liberal" - lip service to diversity, but in the interest of "fairness" harass Christians. The only thing we can be sure of in AOL censorship is that AOL censors are infallible and no criticism of AOL censors will be tolerated. This is how it works. People come into Christian rooms to attack Christianity. AOL censors have no interest in following Biblical principles, so AOL censors will usually side with the anti-Christian than with the Christian. I doubt there is any AOL censor who knows or cares about Biblical principles. AOL censors are welcome tools of the anti-Christian. I was without a single AOL TOS for about 15 years. When I suddenly started to stand up for my Catholic faith in the "Beliefs Catholic", I suddenly got numerous TOS?s. My complaints were to no avail. Go to Christian and Catholic rooms and do light, foolish, van talk, but any real defense of your faith will not be tolerated by AOL censors. Are you happy that we have AOL censors to keep us in line? I guess pro Bush and pro war was too much for the monitors. The speech below, given by Israeli Prime

I agree with it. I remember reading about a similar speech to
the League of Nations (born 1919, died during World War II!)
by the emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie, in 1936. The
League ignored Mussolini's war against the Ethiopians at
that time, in exactly the same manner as the UN does today
to Israel, and for the same reasons. I well remember
the capitulation by England and France to Hitler at Munich
in 1938. Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of Great
Britain at that time, returned proclaiming "Peace in our
time". Eight months later, Hitler started World War II.

Also, I wrote a lengthy treatise titled, "Why Is It We Never Learn?" and it
was posted on the The War In Iraq message board on July 1. It, too, was
expunged
after a short stint in the limelight. I believe it was erased due
to the light shed on the Arabic word Istilahl which is a Muslim who twists
the Holy Scripture of the
Koran to fit his needs. The ending paragraph was
this:
By mixing Islamic truth and twisted ideas of self-government, Islamic
fundamentalists are hoping to use the U.S. as the witting fall guy. By
the ultimate
withdrawal of U.S. forces from the battle theater, it would be just
a matter of time before the mediocre forces left to finish the job we
started would throw up
their hands and deliver the reins of power to a
government no better than the Taliban; unbelievably, a group of thuggish
zealots who expect the populace
to honor them as heroes even after they
indiscriminately car-bombed them into submission.
In short, I put the finger on what these people are actually attempting
to achieve though most people can't see the forest for the trees.
Evidently,
the monitor did not sympathize with my thinking!

Editor's Note: Thanks for sending this information, Could you tell me
what AOL message board this was on. Most of the original people in our group
were
from CRISIS IN THE MIDDLE EAST and WAR IN IRAQ, where people leaning to
the right (and/or supportive of Israel) saw bias. If you see the bias on a
different message board it lends credence to the theory that it is
INDIVIDUAL AOL monitors who are doing the bias for their own political
agenda. I will put this
into the big list about AOL bias.

NY Times , Washington Post , Boston News and watched ABC, CBS, CNN - But
biggest
thing I would like to know -" Who is the editor in red here?" --- In
all aol chat rooms -they have to abide by Tos rules - I thought this board
has to do like wise -
When some think their post has been deleted - all that
need do is go to end of board and find word SEARCH on right hand corner and
type In their screen name
and click what board its on and click on search
and all their post will come up-if you click on all boards - Some if their
post arent poasted right away - they get
their panties in a knot =another
thing Why do people type so small and some type in light green or yellow --
how are some of us suppose to read it - bright
yellow or light green - Give
me a break -some so big it will knock your eyes out and takes up so much of
board - and if one cant take e-main -why fight it out
on board =-People
going to see it all - I say If you do not like way AOL board is run complain
to TosReports - who in the world knows the editor ??????
Yea Go hang out and
chill

We have not gotten around to taking on all of the media yet.

Why did Aol not start campaigns for other evictees?
Why is Aol posting that 80% of Aol users have voted to return Nicky to Big
Brother?
Very flawed survey.
Nicky's Aol campaign has been going for weeks.
Nicky's votes where only to either return her, or not to return her.
The Nicky campaign did not give a choice to return any other evictee.
It is misleading to say 80% of Aol users have voted to let Nicky return to
Big Brother, as it only 80% of Aol users who could be bothered to vote.
As this vote was free many people could voted many times.
The Big Brother Vote is not free.
The Aol Predictor can be wrong.
I this Aol Nicky campaign has gave her an unfair advantage over the other
evictees and housemates, as it suggests 80% of users want her to win.
Aol is giving her free publicity.
Editor's Note: You ask some good questions about AOL's bias, but won't get
too many answers. We have a group that is examining AOL bias and
taking
actions to minimize it. I'll send you an invitation to join.

GeorgeWBushfan1 wrote: What Media Bias? Part 56 I'd like to say this is
shocking, but it isn't: A Reuters photograph of smoke rising from buildings
in
Beirut has been withdrawn after coming under attack by American web logs.
The blogs accused Reuters of distorting the photograph to include more smoke
and damage. The photograph showed two very heavy plumes of black smoke
billowing from buildings in Beirut after an Air Force attack on the Lebanese
capital.
Reuters has since withdrawn the photograph from its website, along
a message admitting that the image was distorted, and an apology to editors.
In the message,
Reuters said that "photo editing software was improperly
used on this image. A corrected version will immediately follow this
advisory. We are sorry for any
inconvenience"
How many times have we seen the news manufactured by the news media? Just
off hand I can think of "we had to destroy the village in order to save it",
ALAR,
exploding truck gas tanks, Jason Blair, Rigoberta Menchu, Texas Air
National Guard...I'm sure there's a dozen that are escaping me at the
moment. What I wonder
is when everyone will finally admit there is a media
bias, and in service of this bias the MSM is not too scrupulous about what
they pass on as truth. One thing we've
never seen: an internal investigation
by a news organization proving itself to have been guilty of fraud. The only
time we see this sort of thing is when outsiders bring
it to everyone's
attention. Of course, for years now I've been advising that the least
reliable source of news is photographic evidence - it is just too easily
doctored,
especially since computers came along to make fakery something you
can do right at your desk with no additional tools required. But over and
above that, all news
media has to be suspect - the most important tool any
of us have to pierce the fog of lies and half truths is our own good sense.
Think about it - does the story really
seem all that plausible? Start doing
that with each story, and you'll be less and less taken in by the MSM.
Editor's Note:
We have a group that is taking action on trying to improve
the bias seen in AOL news sourcing and structuring, as well as the AOL post
deletion
policies which seem to encourage monitors to work their own
particular agendas. If you would like to be part of this group, just send me
email. While we do
NOT address the issue of all media bias, you will get
updates about bias here on AOL.

Read between the lines. I thinking of starting a website about it.

Editor's Note: One way to fight media bias is to stop paying for it. I have
not paid for a NY Times in well over a decade. But, there are other things
you can do,
like contacting AOL management or alerting other media about the
AOL bias.

The bias is becoming more blatant every day. Once my commitment to AOL

JoeTheOctopus wrote: The Associated Press article stated: 'sen. Hillary
Rodham Clinton on Thursday called on Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld
to
resign, hours after excoriating him at a public hearing over what she called
"failed policy" in Iraq."
The Marian Webster Dictionary defines excoriating as:
Main Entry: excoriate
Function: verb
Text: to criticize harshly and usually publicly, "the mayor had hardly been
in office for a month before she was excoriated for problems of very long
standing"
I certainly believe that Rumsfield has had plenty of time and opportunities
that he has flubbed. I also hate the way journalist use bombastic prose in
describing
Senator Clinton's actions.
She is too far to the right to get my vote, but I still wanted to put my two
cents in about media bias that is subtle.
It is said that back in 1755, Benjamin Franklin said, 'Those who would give
up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither
iberty nor Safety.' My sentiments exactly.
