France and the United States signed a civil aviation agreementduring Bill Clinton's presidency that will lift restrictions on commercial airline schedules in five years. In five years the airlines will be able to schedule as many trips as they want to whatever cities they care to serve. Clinton's U.S. Ambassador to France Felix Rohatyn said the agreement will help the number of Americans who visit France each year to rise by about 1 million people over the next five years, up from the 3 million who now come annually. Sure! France's communist Transport Minister Jean-Claude Gayssot said the negotiations had been ``difficult'' but that the agreement welcomed the agreement, saying both sides would benefit, while Air France issued a statement, saying the company was ``delighted'' by the results of the agreement. And, delighted they should been since the agreement will increase the number of destinations Air France can serve in the United States by about 40. In addition, the agreement allows U.S. and French cargo carriers to operate unlimited services between France and the United States. Job payback for the French was immediate. Because of the agreement, Federal Express will now be able to establish its European hub at Charles de Gaulle airport north of Paris, creating about 3,000 new jobs -- none for Americans. Makes you wonder. Did Clinton also get campaign contributions from France?
